I grew up in Delaware and began studying with a local artist when I was 13. After graduating from Duke University with degrees in fine art and art history, I lived in Durham, NC, working as a book designer and painting and drawing the figure.
More than thirty years ago, my partner and I loaded a VW bus with art supplies and our dog, and traveled the country. Lured to the Sierra foothills in northern California, we fell in love with the landscape and the vibrant community, and decided to put down roots. I worked a number of years with Oliver Jackson at Sacramento State and my focus shifted from the figure to landscape.
I continue to be captivated and inspired by the wild and intimate spaces in nature. The Yuba River watershed is an endless source of beauty and subject matter for my work and I am grateful to reside in such a place. I have shown work at the Wild and Scenic Film Festival's juried art competition for several years, and was a resident at the ASiF Visual Art Center in Grass Valley for thirteen years, participating in several shows there each year. I was accepted to the Crocker-Kingsley Exhibition in 2021. Currently, my work may be found in local establishments and in private collections across the U.S. and Canada. Studio visits by appointment.
